SUPPORTING CAMPUS PBIS IMPLEMENTATION: WHAT KELLER ISD IS DOING FOR YOU
July 2017
Keller ISD in the desire to provide continual support for campus PBIS implementation has worked to create a team of administrators that will serve a campus PBIS coaches. This presentation allowed our team the opportunity to education and inform principals and campus PBIS teams of all that the district PBIS team can offer. From one on one campus implementation coaching to a twice a year coaches academy, our team has the knowledge and training to support the development of PBIS at all campuses in the district.
TIMBERVIEW FAMILY: LEARNING, GROWING AND LEADING TOGETHER
July 2017
Timberview opened as a pilot hybrid campus joining both the intermediate and middle school campus together to offer students a new experience. Created with the idea that students would be part of small grade level classes and experience an education of innovation, the first year did not go as plan. With elevated criticism from the community, Timberview had to face trials they never expected. Since that difficult year, leadership, teachers, students and the community have worked together to establish exactly what the mission, vision and values are and how the students experience has evolved to be the amazing one it is today. This presentation shared all that Timberview has gone through and all that it is now, A National School to Watch. The climate, culture and academic philosophy of Timberview all center around the Timberview Way which puts students first and develops them into children who are proud, engaged, important, have a purpose and feel safe.
MAKING MIDDLE SCHOOL
AWESOME FOR KIDS
June 2017
TASSP Summer Workshop 2017
Together as a school community we have worked to develop a culture that inspires students to want to come to school. Based on Ron Clark’s vision, “We want to ensure students want to fake well to come to school, rather than fake sick to stay home”, students, staff and administration work day in and day out to make our middle school fun. From awesome first day experiences, to interactive community building through our house system, we have built a culture that has allowed us to win the middle school attendance award in Keller ISD five out of six times this year. Come see how we work together to create an atmosphere of learning, collaboration, engagement and excitement for students.
POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION AT TMS: FROM IDEA TO IMPLEMENTATION
July 2016
Keller University 2016
New to Timberview Middle School, it was my realization that the vision of the school centered around students first. I had learned about Positive Behavior Intervention Supports at a training in my previous position and wanted TMS to hear all that it had to offer. I first presented the idea to the leadership team and then worked to help create what it is today. This presentation was meant for other administrators and campus teams who wanted to explore PBIS for their campus and learn how to organically allow the growth of the program to occur in order to ensure success.
COLLABORATIVE PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS
GIVING TEACHERS POWER OVER THEIR OWN GROWTH
June 2016
TASSP Summer Workshop 2016
This was one of many presentations I have had to honor to deliver at the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals Summer Workshop. This presentation described quality professional development to improve Tier 1 instruction is vital for student success and teacher
growth. Finding ways to include the strengths of your teachers in PD can increase teacher participation
and engagement in campus learning. The TTESS growth model allows teachers to set goals, recognize
their strengths and identify areas of need for their own PD. Using teacher input and administrator
guidance, you will learn how to develop PD days to offer teacher choice and align school professional
development to the teacher needs. This PD model allows teachers who excel in areas to share out and
teach their peers. It is a 3-step process to develop a PD day where teachers will walk away feeling better
prepared to teach than before.
EDCAMP
2015 & 2016
I am an avid fan of Edcamps that travel around the DFW metro-plex. I have had the opportunity to attend EdCamp Conferences all the way from Keller to Rockwall, Texas. EdCamp Conferences offer opportunities for participants to request what they want professional development in and experts in that specific area sign up to present what they have had to offer. I have presented on a variety of topics at different EdCamp conferences including mentoring, instructional technology implementations, social media in schools, and professional development led by teachers
COMMUNITY LEARNING: IT'S NOT
INSERVICE ANYMORE!
June 2015
TASSP Summer Workshop 2015
As we look to develop and change professional development to meet the needs of today’s educators, we have worked to provide a platform for the teachers and all stakeholders involved in educators our students. Using social media, including Twitter chats, posts and blogs, we have been able to include not only to teachers of our school, but also community members and students have shared in the development and practices of instructional and positive culture practices at Timberview Middle School. This presentation showed how our campus leadership has worked to involved everyone in our continued campus professional development.
SCIENCE AND MATH TEACHERS ACADEMY
Spring and Summer 2011 through 2013
Region XI Education Service Center
The science and math academy offered intense professional development for teachers across the region. I was fortunate enough to be able to present the science training that focused on grades 5 through 8 and the development of content concepts within the elementary TX science standards. The training allowed a collaborative look at how these concepts built and developed across the grades. Teachers were able explore a variety of inquiry-based approaches to developing meaningful learning in the biological sciences, in addition to promoting students’ scientific practices and reasoning.
MAKE YOUR DAY WITH TECHNOLOGY
October 2007
Make Your Day National Conference
Wanatchee, WA
The Make Your Day program was a program that allowed students to take control over their behavior in our school. The implementation of Make Your Day in 2005 created a need for teachers and students to have an easier way to track their success and be able to report how behavior was effecting their every day performance. While at DeWitt Perry Middle School as the Make Your Day discipline coordinator, I was able to work with the technology teacher to create means for teachers to use technology to improve the programs implementation. This presentation was at the National Make Your Day Conference and allowed me the opportunity to share how teachers used technology to track student points and other aspects of the program.
